About Us
Back in 2005 we set out to offer affordable van removals and professional man and van hire services to people needing to shift small loads over long distances in the UK. Early on we aimed our services at just students. We called the service Student Movers and started moving the nations students.
Through the years we grew from strength to strength.
After years battling against a very seasonal student moving calendar and having secured an excellent reputation and client base we knew we had to diversify to offer our van removals and professional man and van hire services to everyone not just students. So between 2012 and 2013 we ran a trial website to research the sort of work we could generate through a more mainstream van removals or professional man with a van business.
In 2013 we re-launched our entire business as Emrys Removals.
What Does ’emrys’ Mean?
Emrys is the Welsh translation of the second name of Merlin the wizard in Arthurian legends. The standard depiction of the character first appears in Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Historia Regum Britanniae, written c. 1136, and is based on an amalgamation of previous historical and legendary figures. Geoffrey combined existing stories of Myrddin Wyllt (Merlinus Caledonensis), a North Brythonic prophet and madman with no connection to King Arthur, with tales of the Romano-British war leader Ambrosius Aurelianus to form the composite figure he called Merlin Ambrosius (Welsh: Myrddin Emrys). He is allegedly buried in the Broceliande forest, near Paimpont in Brittany. (we don’t do France)
Why did we Choose Emrys?
Here at Emrys Removals we love a bit of Magic or Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Outlander even the BBC’s Merlin series we love it all and Merlin had just come to it’s 2012 climax when the new business name was being conjured up deep in the heart of Emrys Towers. Maybe we were influenced by that or maybe we’d always liked the word, nobody is quite sure, but it just worked and the rest is history!
Where are we Today?
Today we have a new website and we’re in the process of embracing technology to it’s fullist. Hopefully by the time you’re reading this we have an instant quote system and an online booking process, if not then it’s still under construction but it can’t be far off.
Thanks for visiting our website and I hope we can help you with this move or in the future.
Please Note: We are currently unable to offer; moves to and from overseas destinations (including Ireland) nor do we offer short distance moves. Some parts of the Scottish Highlands and Islands are too far from our base to reach. We hope you find our site easy to use and we look forward to hearing from you very soon!
